LONDON – The second annual celebration of legendary filmmaker John Ford’s life legacy is to widen its scope to examine his influence on European filmmakers, French New Wave and contemporary filmmakers.

John Ford’s Silent ‘The Iron Horse’ to Open Ireland Symposium
Set to return to Dublin, Ireland, the second edition will feature panel discussions, lectures, discussions, public interviews and industry screenings. Highlights include a gala screening of The Searchers and a public interview with Patrick and Ethan Wayne, sons of the movie’s star John Wayne.
The director’s grandson, Dan Ford, producer and author of the book Pappy, will be in the Irish capital to discuss the man behind the image and share his insight with film fans and filmmakers.
French director Bertrand Tavernier will discuss how Ford influenced his own body of work and French filmmaking.
“John Ford made me what I am. His films made me want to be a filmmaker and this relationship with Ford and with his films, has never stopped,” Tavernier said.
The French director has selected his favorite Ford film, How Green Was My Valley, to screen along with his own critically acclaimed and award-winning Round Midnight.
Film historian Joseph McBride — biographer for Ford, Steven Spielberg and Orson Welles — is scheduled to give the keynote lecture about Ford’s portrayal of Lincoln in 1939’s Young Mr. Lincoln.
The second John Ford Symposium runs June 6 through 9.
