The Dixie Theater celebrates the 100th anniversary of John Wayne?s Birth

STAUNTON, VA ? The Dixie Theater will offer nine free John Wayne movies to celebrate the actor?s birth. This week-long festival runs from the 21 through 26 of May.
Concessions will be available and a free will donation will benefit the Staunton Performing Arts Center. The center is raising funds to renovate and restore the historic Dixie Theater into a 500-plus-seat performing arts venue. The theater will present concerts, music, dance, national touring companies, community productions, lecture series and children?s theater, as well as movies on the big screen.
The John Wayne Movie Festival will show ?Stagecoach,? ?The Horse Soldiers,? ?The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance,? ?Red River,? ?Hondo,? ?Island in the Sky,? ?In Harm?s Way? and ?Big Jake.?

A birthday party for ?The Duke,? will be hosted May 26, at the Dixie Theater. The theater will serve cake, offer a prize for the best John Wayne look alike and the opportunity to take your own photos with the life-size John Wayne. The festival will end Saturday evening with an 8 p.m. showing of ?The Quiet Man.?
