ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - J.W.
Eaves, whose ranch brought New Mexico into the film industry as
the setting for ``Cheyenne Social Club,'' ``Chisum'' and other
productions, died Wednesday of pneumonia. He was 85.
The movie ranch had its
genesis in 1969, when 20th Century Fox approached Eaves to build a
set on his 2,000-acre ranch for ``Cheyenne Social Club,'' with
Henry Fonda and Jimmy Stewart.
Other movies shot at the
ranch include ``The Cowboys'' (1972) and ``Chisum'' (1970), both
starring John Wayne, and ``A Gunfight'' (1971) with Johnny Cash
and Kirk Douglas. Several big-budget movies were shot there in the
1980s, including ``Silverado'' (1985) and ``Young Guns'' (1988).
